South Korea’s Ambassador to Austria Ham Sang-wook has been elected because the president of the 68th Basic Convention of the Worldwide Atomic Power Company(IAEA).
Ham, South Korea’s Everlasting Consultant to the Worldwide Organizations in Vienna, was elected to carry the presidency of the IAEA’s Basic Convention in Vienna on Monday.
The Basic Convention elects a president originally of every annual session, following consultations amongst member states earlier than the occasion.
In his acceptance speech, Ham emphasised that South Korea, which joined as a founding member of the UN nuclear watchdog in 1956, has achieved outstanding development and grow to be a number one nation in nuclear energy.
Ham serves as president throughout the IAEA convention, which is held till Friday.
It marks the primary time in 35 years that South Korea held the presidency of the IAEA Basic Convention since 1989.
