Police Investigating Theft of Statue in University District

Police Investigating Theft of Statue in University District


Seattle Police are investigating the theft of the Sadako Sasaki statue within the College District final week.

On July twelfth at 1130 a.m., officers obtained a report that the statue of ‘Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes’ was stolen from Peace Park within the 800 block of Northeast fortieth Avenue.

No suspect(s) have been recognized or arrested right now.

The statue is a life measurement bronze of Sadako Sasaki, a younger Japanese woman who survived the Hiroshima bombing however later died from radiation illness at age 12.

The Seattle Workplace of Arts & Tradition has valued the statue at roughly $25,000.

This case has been assigned to the Normal Investigations Unit.
