S. Korean Border Towns Suffer from N. Korean Loudspeaker Attacks l KBS WORLD

Anchor: Residents close to the inter-Korean border are affected by North Korean loudspeaker broadcasts. The sounds — which resemble metallic noises, animal cries and results from an ’80s sci-fi flick — are the most recent instance of North Korea’s provocations towards the South. The amount of the loudspeakers generally exceeds 80 decibels, equal to a police patrol siren. KBS World despatched a crew to Ganghwa Island on the west coast to take a look at the scenario.

Residents of South Korea’s Ganghwa Island on the west coast complain of not getting sufficient sleep — the results of a relentless barrage of eerie noises blasted from North Korea.

“In mid-July, South Korea began its [loudspeaker] broadcasts to North Korea, I do know. After that, in late July, [North Korea’s loudspeaker] broadcasts to South Korea started.
